Christmas Greetings 2019

Hicks family matchy-matchy

2019 has been another full year for the Hicks Family. We have many things to be thankful for.

Christopher (3½) began half-day preschool in June. He is social and active. He continues to love all things about trains and outer space. This fall Christopher joined Awana Club as a Cubbie, which has been a blessing to all of us.

Una (almost 2) is spunky and independent. She loves books and trying to keep up with her big brother. She is talkative (and loud). Some complications from her surgery a year ago led to a second surgery this past July. We are very relieved and thankful that she is recovering well now and we are getting back to normal.

Brianna still works part time at Cornerstone Research. She enjoys managing and appreciates the wonderful firm culture. She had business trips to Austin, TX, and Boston, MA, this year.

Steve still works at Google. The past summer saw some big reorganization, during which he pitched and now leads a team of three providing library support for TypeScript and JavaScript developers across the company. Outside of work he dabbles in retro video game hacking and streaming, and built a randomizer for the classic NES game Crystalis, spawning a fledgling community.

It's a small world, but a long day

Now that both children are a little older, Brie and Steve have resumed serving in children's ministry at church, teaching the middle-elementary group once a month, and have finally found a new community group to plug into.

Buddies!

Brianna dusted off her piano playing skills to perform a duet with her sister Katherine at their Grandmother's memorial service. The family also gathered with Brie's family for two different 90th birthday celebrations, and in Virginia for Cardiff Family Conference V for a wonderful week of discussions and adventures (including tubing, hiking, and fireworks).

It's nice to get away

Steve's parents treated the family to a trip to Disney World while we were in Florida for Steve's high school reunion. The kids had a blast, especially enjoying the teacups and flying carpets. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Magic Kingdom through their eyes.

Brie and Steve celebrated their 7th Wedding Anniversary with a weekend trip to Las Vegas (the longest they had been apart from the kids since becoming parents!).

Blessings,
Brianna, Steve, Christopher, and Una
